PowerTemp Alert Strategies

The PathSpot PowerTemp platform lets you customize alerts so the right people are notified at the right time to prevent issues.

Below are common strategies properties use to reduce unnecessary notifications while still ensuring critical issues are escalated when action is needed.

Day vs Night Coverage

➜ Prevents alert fatigue by avoiding notifications to staff who are off-site or unable to respond while maintaining full coverage after hours.

Standard Operating Alert (Daytime)

  • Uses normal temperature thresholds and timing
  • “Follow Business Hours” enabled in Edit Alert Configurations (confirm business hours are set correctly)
  • Notifications go to staff typically working during operating hours

Secondary Alert (After-Hours)

  • Business Hours set to OFF (24/7)
  • Alerts sent to an on-call contact or overnight team

    What it solves: Ensures the right operational team is notified during business hours when they are on-site and able to take immediate action.

Defrost Cycles

➜ Reduce unnecessary alerts from routine events like defrost cycles while ensuring rapid escalation for critical temperature issues.

Defrost Configuration

  • Increase suppression to match expected defrost duration and temperature rise
  • Example:
    • standard alert 41°F–34°F with 2-hour suppression and 3 recurrences
    • Defrost-specific alert 46°F–34°F with ~3.5-hour suppression
  • Use the time-over-temperature graph to understand equipment defrost cycles (learn more here)

Secondary Critical Alert

  • Raise upper threshold to a clearly critical level (e.g., 50°F) not expected during defrost
  • Reduce suppression and recurrence to 20–30 minutesWhat it solves: Ensures true out-of-range temperature events are escalated quickly to the appropriate team without delay.

    What it solves: Prevents false alerts during expected defrost behavior while still ensuring true temperature issues are not missed.
