LoRaWAN Gateway: Full Configuration Guide

If you have "cleared" the gateway keys by hitting the reset button please use the following guide to re-add them.

Note: Before completing this protocol, a member of the PathSpot team must perform certain backend configurations and provide you with two specific files: Cups.key and isgrootx1.pem.

  • The isgrootx1.pem file to be provided by PathSpot

  • The Cups.key file is unique to each device this is critical if more than one gateway is being reset.

If you are unsure whether these steps have already been completed, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or contact us at support@pathspottech.com.

Step 1: Initial Gateway Setup

This part of the process follows the initial steps in the Gateway Setup Guide, used to connect the gateway to your preferred network, only if the keys were not cleared.

Instructions:

  1. Plug the gateway into power.

    • Place it as close to your Wi-Fi router as possible to ensure strong and stable signal.

  2. Press and hold the SETUP button (not RESET) for 15 seconds.

    • This activates the gateway’s setup mode and will broadcast the MiniHub network to devices in its close proximity

  3. Using your computer, connect to the gateway's Wi-Fi network.

    • Look for a network named either MiniHUB-XXXXXX or TBMH-XXXXX.

    • Use the Wi-Fi password printed on the gateway.

⚠️ Note: If the gateway’s Wi-Fi network does not appear, repeat the previous step. Make sure to hold the SETUP button for a full 10–15 seconds to activate broadcast mode.

  4. Once connected, the setup page should open automatically.

    • If it doesn’t, manually navigate to: http://192.168.4.1/

    • Alternatively, you can scan the QR code below (if available going through steps on a mobile device)

Step 3: Set Up LoRa – CUPS Configuration

Make sure you have the following two files ready before starting:

  • CUPS.key (provided by PathSpot)

  • isrgrootx1.pem (provided by PathSpot)

Follow These Steps:

  1. On the LoRa setup page:

    • Mode: Make sure "LoRa Basics Station" is selected.
(This is usually selected by default)

    • Reset the page:

      • Uncheck "Enable CUPS"

      • Then check it again
        (This will clear old settings)

    • Type: Make sure "Boot" is selected.
      (Usually selected by default)

    • CUPS URI Field:
      Paste this link exactly:
      https://pathspot.nam1.cloud.thethings.industries:443

  1. Upload the security files:

    • Check the box for "Install CUPS Trust"

      • Click "Choose File" and upload the isrgrootx1.pem file

      • Or drag and drop the file onto the choose file button

    • Uncheck "Install CUPS CRT"
(If it is not unchecked already)

    • Check the box for "Install CUPS Key"

      • Click "Choose File" and upload the CUPS.key file

      • Or drag and drop the file onto the choose file button

  1. Before you save:

    • Make sure your screen matches the example image below exactly.

    • Do not click Save until everything looks correct.

    • If anything looks off, go back and double-check the steps.

Step 4: Reconnect the Gateway

Once you've completed the previous setup steps:

  • You can now try to reconnect your gateway to the network.

  • Scroll down to the section "If Not Pre-Configured: Partner Configured Gateways (Standard)" on this article for guidance.

Step 5: Pair Sensors to the Gateway

If your sensors have been disconnected for a long time or if they haven’t been activated yet, you’ll need to pair or re-pair them to the gateway.

Before You Begin:

  • Make sure the gateway light is solid green (step 4 was a success). This means it’s connected to Wi-Fi and ready to pair with sensors.

To Pair a LoRaWAN Sensor:

  1. Find the ACT button on the front of the sensor (it's circled in the image below).

  2. Press and hold the button until:

    • The light flashes green

    • Then flashes red once (Hold up to ~5 seconds)

  3. Now you can check your  PathSpot Dashboard to confirm the temperatures are populating!
